Why A Growing Number of People are Calling Rochester, NY Home

Alfred ligammari jr

Did you know that, within the past year, a Hollywood crew headed to downtown Rochester, NY to film scenes for the upcoming The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and President Obama stopped in Magnolia’s Deli and Cafe to discuss higher education with local students? A growing number of Americans are recognizing Rochester as an exciting and unique place to visit. What people may not realize, however, is that it is an equally exciting place to live. What are some of the advantages of living in Rochester apartments and houses?

Economical Living

Approximately 735,343 people call Rochester and its surrounding suburbs home, according to the U.S. Census, and the region is well-known for having one of the best cost of living indexes, thanks to affordable Rochester apartments, homes, and real estate. The area is best known for the Rochester Public Market, a farmers’ market supporting local farmers as well as the region’s and nation’s economy. What can locals expect to find at the market?

Just three years ago, voters named Rochester’s Public Market American’s Favorite Farmers’ Market, and with good reason. The Rochester NY market welcomes up to 250 vendors, selling fresh produce, breads, pastries, meats, cheese, dairy products, spices, herbs, syrups, honey, flowers, plants, handmade goods, and much more. All purchases support local farmers and the economy, and produce is, on average, nearly half of what you would expect to pay in grocery stores. Rochester public market hours are extremely flexible; the market sells wares year-round, every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.

A City of Festivals

Rochester festivals earned the city the fitting nickname, Festival City. Rochester hosts festivals from spring to late fall. Some, such as the Rochester Jazz Festival and the High Falls Film Festival, are nation-famous. The New York Times even recognized Rochester’s Jazz Fest as one of the top four in the country, alongside New York City, San Francisco, and Newport festivals. Currently, the 2014 Jazz Fest expects to host seven costs, 224 paid admission shows, and 81 free shows from June 20-28th.

Rochester is a thrilling city to visit, and an equally thrilling place to live. Rochester apartments and houses are located nearby the nation-famous public market and within a short walking or driving distance of Rochester’s many festivals.
