If You Lose Power, What Happens to Your Computer Servers Are You Prepared?

Generating sets

In this day and age, everything that we own and operate runs on electricity. That is why it is such a traumatizing experience when the power goes out and we are left with nothing to run our computers or televisions or Play Stations or refrigerators or dish washers or phone chargers. Yes, it can be said that we have grown quite dependent upon electricity. Some will say too dependent, but I argue that it is the right amount. After all, why not take advantage of the amazing technology around us? And there is even a way to avoid the inconvenience of losing power. That is the commercial generator.

There are two types to be concerned with. If you have a business that you need to keep running, even when the power goes down, then you are going to want an industrial generator. Industrial generators use industrial engines that can put out a great deal of power to run an entire office building if need be. They can be used to keep the whole building going, to keep power running to servers that cannot risk a loss of power, even for a second, or to keep certain powerful pieces of equipment going. Industrial generators like this can be used on construction sites for incredibly powerful tools, or even for backup power in restaurants, to keep the refrigeration and freezing units running. The amount of food cost lost even after just a few hours of no power could make the price of a generator worth it.

Then there is the residential generator. This can be a tiny unit, or can be big enough to act as a whole home generator. These work best for times when it is known that power will not be back on any time soon. If it is just a little thunder storm and the lights go out, but you expect them to be back on within a few hours, it is best to hold off on the generator. Take a nap. Enjoy the quiet. But if you live someplace like Tornado Alley, you may want to acquire one of these. If you are at risk of losing power for days at a time, if you are on the hurricane coast, it can be a worthwhile investment. Or if you live far enough out in the snow covered wilds that, even if your power outage is just a simple fix, the repairmen will not get to you for days, having back up power could literally be the difference between life and death.

We have the power. Do not take the risk. Make sure you are prepared for any situation and have a backup generator standing by. Whether it is for your company or for your home, you can be assured that things will be safer with that backup waiting and ready. To learn more, read this.
